HC’s directive on CC Bank polls | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 30: High court judge B S Walia today directed respondents to consider measures proposed to be taken by the registrar cooperative societies, Jammu, to ensure exercise of right to franchise by the share holders of Citizens Cooperative Bank (CCB) of the region in the elections scheduled to be held shortly. The court direvtive came in a petition filed by a CCB share holder whose greviance is that although the operation of the bank extends to Jammu province, which comprises of 10 districts, polling stations were set up only in Jammu district during the 2012 CCB elections, depriving share holders of other districts of the right to franchise. He submitted that though the next elections were to be conducted shortly, no steps had so far been taken in this regard. After hearing the petitioner's counsel, Justice Walia issued notice and directed respondents to consider and submit the measures proposed to be taken by the registrar cooperatives societies, Jammu, to ensure exercise of the right to franchise by the share holders for the elections schedules to be held shortly. |
