Azad questions detention of Govt employees | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 30: Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed serious concern over the detention of government employees during the ongoing unrest in the Valley. Talking to reports during his visit to Kashmir, Azad said, "Govt employees run the government and if you detain them I wonder who will run the administration." Azad was referring to the reports of recent arrests of some government employees including Employees Joint Action Committee President Abdul Qayoom Wani and his colleagues. The government last week arrested the EJAC leaders when they were staging peaceful demonstrations, demanding ban on use of pellet guns in the Valley. The EJAC has been complaining that their leadership has been jailed alongside criminals in the Baramulla jail. Various trade and political organizations have been saying that the EJAC leaders have been arrested at the behest of the PDP minister who had "personal animosity with the union leaders." The government employees have been asking that if doctors and paramedics were not detained for protesting against use of pellet gun why the EJAC leaders have been jailed. Sources said some of the PDP leaders have apprised Chief Minister Mehbooba Mutfi that one of her Cabinet ministers who misusing administration to settle personal scores with government employees. "We have told her (Mehbooba) that detention of government is illogical and personal vendetta of a particular minister," said a PDP leader. |
