DDE plays restaurant for kitty parties | | | Raj Sandeep
Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 31: It has come to fore that Directorate of Distance Education under the administrative control of Jammu University meant to provide quality education to the distance students has slowly become a den for organizing kitty parties with university playing the proverbial ostrich. Sources said on one hand University Authority enjoins upon staff emphasizing on result oriented work culture in the overall interest of students but on the other hand some of the favourite faculty members of university administration working in DDE enjoy kitty parties with impunity in their rooms during working hours and even otherwise, they alleged. Sources revealed that there is a coterie of senior faculty members in DDE who are allegedly not much bothered about their duties and responsibilities and indulge into organizing kitty parties in their rooms on rotation basis making merry while students from far-flung areas who seek admission and come for study in DDE continue to suffer by one way or the other. These faculty members are habitual of setting at naught the conducive work-culture in DDE at the cost of academics promotion and its development and while away the time over personal enjoyment during duty hours, which is against the Service Conduct rules, they added. Sources further revealed that the former Director of DDE had maintained an atmosphere of good work culture and tightened these faculty members who were evasive in performing their official duties. Sources further told that he made the faculty members to maintain punctuality and sincerity towards their duties in as much as he kept an eye to discourage the culture of kitty parties of the faculty members considered to be blue-eyed of the Vice Chancellor. However, at the instance of few senior faculty members of the DDE there was change in the administrative head of DDE with the placement of new Director, they added. With the change of guard in DDE, the culture of holding kitty parties have been restored which are allegedly held in rooms and even joined by other senior professors from other departments of varsity. The motive of such get-together during working hours or otherwise cannot be assumed as good or bad but due to this reason, the students of DDE are the first causality, sources added. Pertinent to mention here that the faculty members often enjoying kitties in the DDE have not contributed anything towards research work as no scholar has completed PhD under their guidance so far which is pathetic by all standards. Sources told that the university authority has always maintained that good work culture is the backbone of the university functioning, but it has turned a deaf ear to the culture of kitty parties being held under the nose of Director DDE. |
