Youth killed, MP's house torched | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 31: A civilian was killed and scores wounded as curfew was lifted from across the restive Kashmir on Wednesday, officials and reports said. Officials said a youth was killed and some others injured in Ladoora, Rafiabad when mob attacked an Army convoy. "As per a report from the police, a mob of more than 900 people attacked an army convoy at Ladoora, Rafiabad and amidst stone pelting some fires were shot on the army convoy on way to Kupwara. The Army fired some rounds in air to disperse the mob. In the incident 4 persons were injured and one of the injured identified as Danish Manzoor Lone S/O Manzoor Ahmed Lone R/O Nadihal Sopore succumbed to injuries," the official said. In south Kashmir, violent mobs torched the police quarter and residential house of senior People's Democratic Party leader and incumbent Rajya Sabha member Nazir Ahmed Lawey at Hanad Chawalgam village of Kulgam district. Nazir Ahmad Laway is the Member of Parliament representing the state of Jammu and Kashmir in Rajya Sabha. He was elected to Rajya Sabha on the ticket of PDP in February 2015. Reports said that hundreds of protesters from Tangabal and Katrusu areas marched towards Kulgam district. The clashes in these areas left dozens of people injured. Witnesses said the protesters before setting the residential house of Laway on fire attacked Jammu and Kashmir Bank Building that was open that time. Officials however said the overall situation was improving. They said with the "improvement in overall situation," curfew has been lifted from all areas of Kashmir valley. "Curfew was today lifted from Nowhatta and Maharjgunj areas of Srinagar. With this curfew has now been lifted from entire Kashmir valley as no area in any district of valley is under restrictions," the officials said. While protests were reported from various areas of Kashmir including the congested downtown here, scores of people were wounded in action by government forces to quell the protesters. Earlier in the day, intense clashes erupted outside Fruit Mandi Sopore. According to protesters, the authorities had asked the fruit sellers to open the fruit stands after 9 am instead of the 7 am and the Army had stopped the vehicles laden with apples. This angered the people and started raising anti-India slogans. Reports of clashes also poured in from Bandipora and Budgam districts. |
