Asks associations to hold sports event in turmoil hit Kashmir | Sports Council official turns 'dictator' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 31: Even as the entire Kashmir Valley is reeling under curfew and shutdown for the last more than 50 days, the top official of the Sport Council is forcing the sports associations and their Jammu-based representatives to conduct events in Kashmir only. A direction in this regard was verbally issued by the official during his recent meeting with the office bearers of different sports association at Srinagar. The meeting was specially convened to make direction to the Jammu-based office bearers of the association. According to the sources, newly appointed official of the Council told the associations in very clear words that there was no agenda of the meeting other than to convey all for arranging sports events in Valley. As some members pointed out that under the prevailing situation in Valley organizing events in Jammu would be more feasible and arrangements could be made for participations of Kashmiri sportspersons in the same, the suggestion was stoutly rejected by the official who made it clear that no such proposal would be considered and the events must be held in Kashmir Valley only notwithstanding curfew and bandhs. Ironically, when the official was taking meeting of the associations' representatives in the Sports Council office, the entire office was virtually without any employee and not even a single peon was present there to offer a glass of water to the participants. The official himself admitted that no one was available in the office due to curfew and bandh, sources said. During more than an hour long meeting, sources said the maximum time was taken by the official in reiterating that sports events need to be held in Valley at any cost while all the representatives of different Associations as well as Sports Council preferred to remain mum. Though some of these representatives later narrated the entire episode to some BJP ministers and senior leaders, who claim to be champions of Jammu, no one could dare to speak even a single word over this attitude of the official. |
