Scared workers quit PDP in old Srinagar | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 31: In a major blow to the ruling PDP, a group of office bearers including some senior activists resigned from the party in downtown Srinagar. Sources said the activists unanimously tendered their resignation from the party in Rainawari area of the volatile old city which falls under the assembly constituency of Minister of the State (MoS) Health, Asiya Naqash. Sources said the PDP members publicly announced their resignation and tendered their apologies to the people for being the supporters of PDP over the years. The activists as per sources have decided not to be the part of PDP anymore for the latter's failure to take people out of the present crisis that erupted after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani on July 8. "We cannot rule out the possibilities of threat to workers and activists who have resigned. Another aspect should be that they might not have got what they actually wanted," said a senior party activist. He said the matter would be looked into. However sources confirmed that the activists who have resigned chanted slogans against the government besides vowing their support for the ongoing anti-India campaign. "Yes, they shouted anti-India slogans publicly. They also apologized for supporting PDP and vowed to support the ongoing movement hereafter," sources said. They said the PDP activists might motivate their former colleagues in the party to resign too as the Valley continues to be on the boil. Pertinently, two policemen in Sopore and many senior mainstream politicians in some south Kashmir villages have also resigned in the last few days. Sources said the resignation of its workers in old city might prove detrimental for the PDP as the party took years to gain the public support in the area. |
