Kaamchor officials stay away from offices in Kashmir | Secretariat marks negligible attendance | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 31: A large number of government employees including several senior officers continue to stay away from their offices in the Valley while some have reportedly left for Jammu without seeking permission. Governance has come to a grinding halt in the Valley with the Civil Secretariat witnessing minimal presence. Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Bemina has been trying to meet the CEO, JKEDA, but to no avail. "For the last one month I visited his office but every time I found the main gate of the office locked," he said. On Wednesday, when this correspondent visited some offices in Srinagar, they presented a deserted picture. This is despite government issuing strict directions to the employees to attend their duties regularly. A senior cabinet minister had told Early Times that since most of the employees failed to turn up for their duties, directions have been passed to them to ensure their presence in order to 'mitigate the problems of the people in the current situation'. "Action under the law would be taken against those who defy the directive," he had said. Reports said that hundreds of government offices in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley are still locked since the agitation erupted in the Valley on July 8. Sources said that some officials from Jammu have not yet reported for duties in Srinagar after the unrest. They said that some officials of Kashmir have gone to Jammu without prior permission of the government and are staying there from the past two months. "Not to talk of lower rung employees, even most of the KAS officers from the region have not joined duties after the unrest gripped Kashmir," a bureaucrat, preferring anonymity, said. Sources said that in Srinagar in the last two months. Situation in other districts of the valley, where shutdowns and protests continue, is no different, rather it's worse. A top official said that work in the departments involving public dealing has come to a grinding halt. Though lower ranking officials reach the offices, they are not able to work in absence of the in-charges. |
