Amid internet gag, students asked to submit exam forms online | Technical Board does Jaspal Bhatti in Valley | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 10: The Technical Board here has put the students in turbulent situation as it has come up with a notification asking the candidates to submit the examination forms online that too amid the internet gag. The students across Valley pursuing diploma in various courses including civil, electronic and mechanical are all up in arms against the board authorities over what they termed a bizarre measure in conducting examinations with such a way of functioning. "Where from can we submit our exam forms online? There is no internet working anywhere in the Valley and internet cafes too are shut for the last two months," said Shakir Mir, a student pursuing Diploma in Civil engineering at KGP Srinagar. The parents too are questioning the rationale behind asking students to submit the examination forms online. They have accused the board authorities of turning a blind eye towards the plight and hardships being faced by the student community in Valley. They have said that the board, known for its lethargic approach, has amid the crises in Valley, put the fate of thousands students in jeopardy. "The notification for the examinations of 2nd and 4th semesters in various diploma courses was issued all of a sudden. Then the students were asked to submit the examination forms online," said Hilal Ahmad, a parent hailing from south Kashmir. He said that the entire area from which he hails hasn't a single internet connection working. "We fail to understand why the board authorities haven't given a thought over the issue." Meanwhile, students informed Early Times that they are willing to apply for the examination provided some sort of facility is provided for the submission of the examination forms. "We have been asked to fill the form online. Then there is an instruction to get the print copy along with the bank challan. We have been further asked to submit the same at the college. How such a task could be performed from our end when no one dares to come out and banks too are shut," Aamir Ali said. Meanwhile, the last date for the submission of the examination form is September 14, which is a gazetted holiday on account of Eid-ul-Azha in Jammu and Kashmir. "Is the board functioning without any mind? How could a student first find an internet connection, then find the bank on a gazetted holiday and then reach the college to submit the filled form? This is height of the non-serious approach," said Gulzar Ahmad, a parent whose kid is this year applying for 4th semester in electronics. Senior officials of the board did not respond to repeated calls from Early Times for their comment. |
