| Youth drowns under mysterious circumstances | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 10: A youth from Mendher of Poonch after participating Border Security Force (BSF) Recruitment Rally, held in Rajouri drowned in Rajouri river near Sailani bridge today afternoon under suspicious circumstances.
"The deceased has been identified as Shiraz Ahmed son of Barkat Hussain of Mendher who had come from Mendhar to participate in rally at Rajouri," police said.
"On getting information about the incident a police party from Rajouri police station led by inspector Chaman Gorkha rushed to the Sailani bridge area and after hectic efforts rescue team of police fished out body of the youth, police said.
After on the spot verification and legal formalities police shifted the body to District Hospital (DH) for autopsy and other necessary formalities for further investigation while inquest proceedings have been initiated in this regard to ascertain the cause of death and any foul play behind the death.
According to initial reports the deceased had also gone to the river along with his colleagues and while taking bath he slipped into deep water.
"Shiraz while taking bath to beat the heat slipped into deep waters and could not come out despite repeated attempts. We raised the alarm for help and the policemen deployed for the security of the bridge and some passersby from nearby shops also rushed to the site rushed to the site and informed the police" said one of the colleagues of the deceased, adding, " but it was too late." .
Pertinently for the last few days hundreds of youth have been camping at Rajouri to participate in the recruitment rally being conducted by the Border Security Force. However due to ongoing immense heat wave some youth often go to nearby Rajouri river to beat the heat. |
