Death toll reaches 79 as youth succumbs to injuries at SKIMS | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sep 11: As a youth succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here today the death toll in the violence that broke out in Kashmir valley following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Wani reached 79. Reports said that a youth identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar, resident of Wadwan-Budgam breathed his last at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here today in the afternoon. Javaid had sustained injuries during clashes at Narbal in Budgam district on August 5. As soon as the news of Javaid's death spread groups of agitated came out at various places in Budgam district and protested against his killing. The agitated protesters pelted stones on police and security forces with the same being retaliated by lathi-charge and lobbing of smoke shells. The protests were going on when last reports came in. The situation was tense in the areas where protests were going on. Clashes broke out in the Wadwan village, the native area of Javaid. Police and security forces used teargas canisters to disperse the agitating youth. Police and security forces also used force against a group of people who were protesting at the Rathsun village of the district. In the Srinagar district Chota Bazar area witnessed clashes between protesters and security forces with some of the persons sustaining injuries. Reports said that dozens of civilians were injured during fresh clashes between security forces and stone-pelting protesters in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Scores of protestors pelted stones on police and security forces at Kareemabad in the district. This was retaliated by the security forces by firing tear smoke shells and pellet guns. Some persons sustained injuries when security forces used teargas canisters to foil a rally in the Zamalgam-Dooru area in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. At least ten persons sustained injuries during clashes between agitating youth and security forces at Markundal-Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora district. Clashes erupted between youth and security forces in the Sopore area of Baramulla district during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the youth. Some of the people sustained minor injuries during the clashes. A statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir said that stray stone pelting incidents were reported from Sopore, Pulwama and Budgam. There was increased movement of traffic in Srinagar as well as in the towns. Shops were opened at various places and people were seen making purchases, the statement said. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that a driver sustained injuries after he came under heavy stone pelting in the Batengoo area of Anantnag district. The spokesman said that on Friday evening miscreants' pelted stones on vehicles at Batengoo. "Some vehicles were damaged in this incident. Driver of one of those vehicles namely Parvaiz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Kabir Dar resident of Lalad Sopore suffered head injury in this stone pelting incident. His vehicle was also damaged. A case FIR number 253/2016 under section 307, 147, 148, 149, 336, 427 RPC has been registered and investigation taken up," said the spokesman. |
