Dearth of options leads to decline in student registration at DDE | VC 'hatches conspiracy' to take away practicals from curricular | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 27: The apathetic approach of the officers at the helm of affairs have resulted in the decline of student registration at the directorate of distance education of Jammu University, wherein students are not opting JU after subjects involving practical work have been taken off from the curricular. According to highly placed sources, the vice chancellor Jammu University in connivance of director Distance education have collaborated in the removal of subjects having practical options, due to which there is steep decline in the number of students. Sources revealed that Academic Session 2014-15 saw 212 students opted for Geography, 162 for Psychology, 33 for Home Science, 25 for Music and 141 for Statistics. In 2015-16, 207 students opted for Geography, 131 for Psychology, 69 for Home Science, 24 for Music and 62 for Statistics. Further in 2016-17, 126 opted for Geography, 58 for Psychology, 235 opted for Home Science, 05 for Music and 06 in Statistics. The statistics makes it evident that there is huge decline in all the subjects (having Practical) except Home Science as the Admission Convener of Under-Graduate course (Part-I) reportedly asked the admission seekers to avoid subjects having Practical due to non-availability of faculty. Owing to conspiracy, the number of students opting for Statistics has fallen down to just 6 in 2016-17 from 141 in 2014-15 which itself explains the phenomenon as to why and what happened behind the curtains. If sources are to be believed Director DDE ignored the Coordinator Part-I (UG Classes) and made another person Convener of Admission Committee (Part-I) who holds to credit closure of B.Ed course in DDE. He was assigned the task to discourage the students to opt for subjects having Practical especially Statistics. The sources said that the director ignored such important aspects at the behest of Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor hatched conspiracy to settle his personal score and wanted to make sure that minimum students opt for Statistics so that need for engaging contractual faculty doesn't arise. |
