Jammu University V-C ‘misleads’ NAAC team | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 27: The Vice- Chancellor of Jammu University (JU) on Tuesday, allegedly misled the Peer Team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) by claiming that Jammu University is all set to "conquer the moon" and it functions systematically. Sources told Early Times the Vice-Chancellor made exaggerated claims before the NAAC team, which is currently on 4-day visit to the varsity for Cycle-III of assessment and accreditation, on timely declaration of results and e-connectivity of departmental libraries with Central Library. The Vice-Chancellor, according to the sources gave a power-point presentation before the visiting experts and highlighted the achievements of varsity on different spheres. "The Vice-Chancellor claimed that several reforms have been made in Examination Wing owing to which results (both evaluation and re-evaluation) are being declared in time. "Whereas, it's an open secret that 90 percent of the results get delayed because of complete failure of system in Examination Wing. Results getting delayed has jeopardized the career of hundreds of students till date," revealed a source. A senior professor, on the condition of anonymity, commented that students have to face several hardships for re-evaluation as majority of students are declared 'Pass' after Re-evaluation of answer sheets but by that time their precious year gets lost in the process. "The Vice Chancellor shouldn't have misled the NAAC peer team. He should have admitted the lacunae and elaborated the steps being taken to reform the system," the professor added. The prevailing mess in Examination Wing was exposed by an RTI activist. The Information obtained revealed that the Examination wing of the Jammu University goes beyond time frame fixed for declaration of results. It further revealed that the results of students who were pursuing their Master Degree in various courses at JU have to wait for more than four months to get results. "During the last one year, the Examination Wing of JU took 117 days to declare the 4th Semesters result of a 31 candidate of Botany, 177 days to declare the 2nd Semester result of a 58 candidate of Education, 83 days to declare the 4th Semester result of 29 candidates of Geology, 106 days to declare the 4th Semesters result of 20 candidates of Punjabi, 226 days for declaration of 2nd semesters result of 50 students of M.Sc Chemistry, 141 days to declare the 4th semesters result of 46 students of M.Sc Chemistry, 196 days to declare the 2nd semesters result of 55 candidates of MBA, 100 days to declare the 4th semester result of a 48 candidates of MBA, 196 days to declare the 4th semester result of a 51 candidates of Education, 158 days to declare the 4th semesters result of a 56 candidate of M.Com, and worst is the case where University took 140 days to declare the result of2nd semesters 9 students of M.A Punjabi", the RTI revealed, adding that there more cases where the wing took more than four months to declare the results. It further disclosed that the students of PG in the subject of Geology (SOIL & HYDRO) 2nd semester, Math 2nd semester, Information Technology 2nd semester, Economic 2nd semester, Chemistry 2nd semester, were held in May 2015 but the results of all the above mentioned subjects were declared on 24th March 2016, 17th March 2016, 29th Feb, 7th January, 7th January respectively. It further disclosed that the students of various professional and academic courses including exams of post basic B.SCNursing 2nd year, post basic B.SC Nursing 1st year, B.SC Nursing 1st year were held in Oct 2015 but the results of all the above mentioned subjects were declared on 17th Feb 2016, 17th Feb 2016, 8th March and MBBS, MBA, MCA, LLB were also victims of lackadaisical attitude of Controller Examination of the University. However, the University statutes say that results must be declared within 45 days but the same is being flouted by none other than JU authorities themselves. Sources further said that The Vice-Chancellor also misled the NAAC Team on the networking of all the departmental libraries with the Central Library for sharing e-resources. In reality, none of the departmental libraries is connected with Central Library due to which the research scholars and students face hardships in getting access to e-resources. Another senior professor revealed that University of Jammu (JU) has not obtained any membership at national or international level to have access to e-journals online. "The Vice Chancellor made tall claims before the NAAC team. The team would visit departmental libraries and automatically find the truth which would embarrass the Vice Chancellor," he quipped. The re-assessment and re-accreditation (Cycle II) of University of Jammu was done in 2009 and University was granted an "A" grade. |
