Now, 'Birbal' heaps praises on Geelani, Mirwaiz | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 27: In his bid to earn the goodwill of separatist leaders, Education Minister Naeem Akhtar has lavished praises on hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani and so-called moderate leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Akhtar, who is known in the media as Birbal for his petty political moves, said at a function in Srinagar the other day that Geelani and Mirwaiz had completed their education despite many odds. Akhtar did not stop here and continued to heap praises on the Hurriyat hawk. He said Geelani has written a beautiful book 'Wular Ke Kinare' in which he has documented his struggle right from early childhood and how despite immense hardships he never gave up the dream of education. He even complemented Mirwaiz, saying that the cleric-politician had to overcome personal struggle to complete his PhD as an accomplished scholar. The education minister though didn't out rightly blame these top separatists for the disruption of the education but blamed some unscrupulous elements for the disruption. It's believed that he is first mainstream and top functionary of the government to praise the separatists who are widely blamed for putting the career of thousands of Kashmiris in future. "The government has stuck to the core agenda of the education as the top casuality of violence. Education is the top and foremost priority of the parents especially in the J&K where it's mode of deliverance to get government jobs, especially in the competitive atmosphere. It's likely to get reverberations and more heat will be turned on the separatists," said a senior official. The tone and tenor of his statement expressing the concern of the students is reflected in the fact that aspirants for government jobs are now holding protests for delay in some competitive exams. "The protests either for postponing the exams or for more jobs may be small in number till now but they point to the fact that how the things are slowly turning around. In just few days with the government firm on holding exams in the due course the people will turn the heat on the separatists and it's when it will start pinching them most and it could be turning point," said the official. |
