Azad shuts Congress doors for the time being | `New faces to join at appropriate time' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 27: Entry of several prominent leaders from different political parties in Congress has been put on hold by Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and the tallest Congress leader in Jammu and Kashmir, who has indicated his return to the state politics. Notwithstanding the eagerness of the leaders and the clearance of PCC president G A Mir, Azad is learnt to have suggested the party high command that most appropriate time for the entry of aspirants had not comer yet. Pertinent to mention that former National Congress leader from Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony, former minister and PDP leader Gharu Choudhary, former MLA and BJP leader Ashwani Kumar Sharma, NC leader R Mottan and several other prominent leaders from different political parties have desired to join Congress and are eagerly waiting for their inclusion in the party. According to the reliable sources in Congress circles, the PCC president G A Mir wanted to make it look like a series of the prominent people joining Congress. Former BJP MLA Dr Gharu Ram Bhagat into the party fold was first step in this regard. Even Ghulam Nabi Azad had earlier agreed for the same also gave his consent to attend the joining ceremony of T S Tony, sources added. However, there was sudden change of mind and Azad is now learnt to have conveyed the party to put joining of others on hold for some time, sources informed and explained that the new development has something to do with Azad's homecoming. He (Azad) is probably thinking that joining of Congress by prominent leaders should be under his leadership and at the time when elections are approaching nearer, said a senior Congress leader on the condition of anonymity. |
