Udhampur ,Sept 27: The Jammu and Kashmir government is much concerned about the pollution caused by the cement factories but authorities in Udhampur seems to be in deep slumber as they are least concerned about the damage made to the environment The residents of Rathian and Battal ballian and other concerning colonies - through representations by the local sarpanch's has said about the commissioning of the new cement plants in the area be considered by the government. No authorities are seemed to be inspecting the plants as the officials have filled up their pockets by the cement plant owners but they have indirectly put the future of our children's in dark as the environment is getting polluted which is causing a problems to the health of our children, a local resident Naresh Kumar said. "State pollution control board be directed to visit the spot and conduct extensive study of the pollution caused by the cements plants and the existing cement plants be ordered to adhere to the preventive measures for controlling and abating the pollution. PCB be also directed to stop the functioning of such cement plants which do not adhere to the pollution control devices and other measures as provided under rules," he said Underlining that the cement manufacturing activity in the area responsible for cause of air and water pollution which has caused great ecological imbalance, the locals stated "The people of the area have raised voice against the pollution caused by the existing cement plants because of non-adherence of norms and other such measures which are used for controlling and monitoring of pollution, the plants which have objected by the locals include the Kashmir Cement Plant and Uma Cement Plant and others. Moreover, the locals pleaded, the area is known for vegetables production which has marginally reduced because of the industrial pollution Fangial and Rathian areas are famous for vegetables cultivation . It is paradoxical as in the area the cement plants are being commissioned without any check which is illogical and self destruction of economy." "The State is bound to follow the cherished principles of law which have emerged in environmental jurisprudence as laid down in various international treaties, protocols and the domestic law and the principles laid down by. "We approached different authorities including pollution control board for checking up of the irregularities of cement plants However, the Department showed less concern when we spoke to the disst pollution control officer as he said the notices have been issued to the cement plants if found them not following up the laws the legal actions will be taken against them . |
