Ex-JRC of Mumbai shells out Rs 3.30 lakh illegally drawn against HRA | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 4: Misusing his powers, Jawaid Ahmad Shah, during his posting as joint resident commissioner, Mumbai, had unlawfully drawn Rs 3.30 lakh against house rent allowance (HRA) even as he lived in a Government Guest house. The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) received a complaint in this regard, alleging therein that the officer had embezzled HRA, misused departmental vehicles and VVIP suits reserved for top functionaries of the government. The commission, after taking a cognizance of the matter, sought a report from Principal Secretary of Hospitality and Protocol Department. On SVC directions, a special audit team was deputed to Mumbai to get the accounts of the JRC office audited. The audit team, after thorough checking of records, established that the JRC had dishonestly drawn Rs 3.30 lakh as rent even as he stayed in the government accommodation. The audit party recommended to recover the amount from him. After the detection of the 'irregularity', the officer was made by SVC to deposit the illegally drawn amount of Rs 3.30 lakh. The action taken report in this regard was submitted by Principal Secretary, Hospitality and Protocol Department. It further recommended that the rent of the guest house should also be recovered from ex-JRC Asif Khan, who had not vacated the accommodation despite his transfer to New Delhi. The audit team further recommended that an in-depth audit of accounts of the commission needed to be conducted by AG office of DG Audit and Inspections as no audit had been conducted for years together there. |
