Jammu, Oct 4: The increasing incidents of theft cases in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu has exposed a well knit mafia which is working in connivance with some corrupt officials, causing huge loss to the state exchequer. Ina recent case of theft, the hospital lost eight air conditioners and other electronic equipment.
The administration, reports said, have come under scanner for their conduct. Reports said the administration has been brazenly trying to shield the culprits by denying information to the police.
Insiders said the administration lodged a complaint in the Bakhshi Nagar Police Station on August 30against unknown people about theft of eight Air Conditioners and wiring from the store.
They said when the police reached the spot with FSL team to take the finger prints and investigate into the matter, the store was locked from outside. According to police the hospital's administration did not allow them to investigate.
Sources within hospital told Early Times that this was not the first theft case in the GMC. "Earlier in 2012 twenty-two microscopes were stolen by some unknown persons and during primary investigation and an involvement of internal nexus was suspected but investigation could not reach at any conclusion," they said.
"The then Principal Dr Anice Chowdhary, took no serious measures to bring the accused to the book. Further no preventive measures were taken to prevent such thefts in future. It is very shocking thing that the administration in which some of the staff which is working here are hand in glove with this mafia carry out their plan successfully," they said.
When contacted SHO Bakshi Nagar, Ashwani Sharma said that he asked to provide stock list and other records related to the store but the hospital administration seems reluctant to provide the records.
