2 days after Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, city roads littered with garbage

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 4: The Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (SBA) has once again proved merely a photo session for ministers of coalition partners as only two days after its anniversary, roads, bus stand, railway station and various markets in the winter capital can be seen littered with garbage.
Piles of garbage at the bus stand, railway station and in markets and streets and choked drains emitting foul smell across city prove that the anniversary is more a photo session exercise and less an exercise to actually clean the city.
Raising finger over the ritualistic exercise of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, Amit Sharma of Rani Bagh said that the campaign was limited to a photo session exercise for politicians to remain in the headlines whereas for rest of the year, they 'don't bother about cleanliness'.
"Even as garbage bins are placed at different locations in the city, garbage can be found strewn around them and this remains there for many days and no one lifts it for days together", he said.
Dewan Singh of Bus Stand alleged that though BJP government at the Centre had started Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, the party, which 'is in power in the state in coalition with PDP, has failed to make its contribution in keeping the city clean'.
He said, "What is the rationale behind celebrating the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan every year if there is no cleanliness in government offices and the city areas."
Alok Kumar said the SWA campaign must continue across the year because cleanness and hygienic environment were most important for everyone as unhygienic and filthy and unclean surroundings give birth to diseases. "The government machinery, politicians as well as common men should understand the importance of this campaign and work towards making home and city clean, instead of uploading photographs on social networking sites or getting them published in newspapers", he said.
