Kishtwar, Oct 4: The internet services, that were suspended in the erstwhile Doda district on August 5 last after protests by people over the terrorist Burhan's killing in July, were restored this afternoon. The services were restored in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts at about 3.40 pm. The internet services were also restored in Rajouri and Poonch districts, according to official sources. The divisional administration held a meeting of top officials, including IGP of Jammu region, and decided to restore the mobile internet services in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts, sources said. "Though the mobile internet services have been restore, the authorities are keeping close eye on the use of the social media. In case any provocative material gets circulated on social media, the services will again be suspended," the sources added. "It can be suspended again if government feels the need to do do in the interest of peace," said a senior officer. Sources said if any person misused the services that could lead to any law and order situation, action would be initiated against such people under relevant sections of IT Act. Meanwhile, the student community and the businessmen have welcome the restoration of mobile internet services in the area and hoped that the government would not suspended them in future. They said instead of blocking the services, the government should punish those who 'make their misuse'. Meanwhile, a heavy rush of people was witnessed outside mobile recharge counters as the validity of their internet packs had expired in the case of majority of prepaid costumers. A subscriber said he chose small mobile internet pack with three days or week long validity period as due to uncertainty over the continuation of mobile internet services, those like him could not take any risk of losing money. "I have already lost over Rs 1000 value recharge pack in last three months. I don't want to go for long validity mobile internet pack," said another subscriber, who also demanded crediting of balance Internet usage to customers and asked the government to take up the matter with the mobile service providers. A mobile recharge vendor said due to the ban on internet, his business was hit badly and he could not even pay the rent of his shop. "Like everyone, I also want the services to continue without any hindrance," he said and advocated action against individual person or persons who spread hate on social media sites, including Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
