Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 4: Students enrolled in 22 polytechnic colleges of the state face uncertain future as with less than one month left for completion of the semester, the department of technical education is yet to engage demonstrators and lecturers against vacant posts under academic arrangement.
Source in the department said that owing to non availability of lecturers and demonstrators in the respective colleges, the students of semester I, II and III were forced by the college administrations either to take the examination without completing the syllabus or get ready to take two examinations simultaneously in next semester.
The Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk Jammu and Polytechnic College, Srinagar are the Nodal colleges, which engage lectures/ demonstrators under academic arrangement for respective regional colleges. "Unfortunately, after lapse of five month since the semester commenced, they have succeeded only in publishing notification for the same, but engagements process of the lectures is yet to be initiated", he added.
The source further said that almost all the Polytechnic Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir regions were facing huge dearth of manpower of teachers, technicians and even clerical staff.
The callous approach of the department can be gauged from this fact that the two main colleges of Jammu city -Polytechnic College, Jammu and Polytechnic college for Women, where seven post of lecturers of different streams including Civil, Mechanical, Automobile, Instrumental & Control and Architecture were vacant since long, the department has done little to fill these posts.
"The department is neither concerned to fill the vacant post of lectures/ demonstrators nor engaging the lectures under academic arrangement so far while the semester is near completion, which shows the indifferent attitude of department or government toward students studying in different colleges", said a teacher pleading anonymity.
The teacher further said that presently faculty; they were unable to complete their diplomas in time, adding, "If the government is unable to provide adequate infrastructure and manpower in these colleges, why did it open polytechnic college in each district."
It may sound bizarre but true that the post of Humanity and Applied Science of each colleges has been lying vacant, the only guest teachers are manning the department since the colleges were established.
