Jammu, Oct 4: In a recent development, an attempt to overcome the chaos prevailing in Super Specialty Hospital Jammu, the administration is mulling to install split air conditioners in modular operation theatres, instead of restoring 'defunct' central air conditioning system. According to sources, the existing air conditioning system turned redundant due to inefficiency of the hospital administration. "The decision regarding replacement of central air conditioning system by split ACs was taken in a high level meeting held in the hospital and attended by Principal GMC, Medical Superintendents of various hospitals and other officials of the health department", they said. Ridiculing the move, the sources said that the split ACs are not being used even in district hospitals, but unfortunately, here at SSH it is being considered as the only remedy, to escape public anger. "Sufficient, Central Air Conditioning r System, with a capacity of 750 ton was installed. Unfortunately, due to negligence and faulty maintenance, the system is lying out of order for long", they said, adding that the matter came to fore when the whole system got collapsed recently. "The central air conditioning system, was getting deteriorated for long time, but nobody bothered to take care of it, apart from hospital administration, it was the duty of Mechanical Department of Hospital to maintain the system", sources said. "Similar system in Government Medical Collage and Hospital is working without any trouble. Why did it go defunct in Super Specialty Hospital", sources questioned. The people have demanded a probe into failure of the system worth several crores through Vigilance and Crime Branch to unearth the nexus, that is draining funds meant for public services. Fearing life threats to patients inside the modular operation theatres of hospital, the experts said, installation of split ACs would prove catastrophic. "It will be un-hygienic and increase the fear of infection inside the operation theatres", they said. |
