About 85% students confirm participation in examinations in Valley | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 13: About 85 per cent students have confirmed their participation in the 10th and 12th class examinations in the Kashmir valley from tomorrow, when separatists had finally withdrawn "Lal Chowk" challo on the request of sikh organizations in view of Guru Nanak birthday. Meanwhile, all arrangements, including security, are in place to conduct the examinations smoothly in the valley, where all educational institutions remained closed since July Ist due to summer vacation till July 17. However, the schools could not reopen after the vacations following general strike called by separatists since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. The district administration have already imposed Restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in and around the examination centres in the valley. Despite opposition by mainstream political parties, separatists, student unions and traders associations, the government decided to go ahead with examinations in the valley, where more than 30 educational institutions were damaged in mysterious fire incidents. However, police claimed to have identified and arrested alleged stone pelters involved in setting on fire schools. A high level security meeting was held to make fool proof arrangements for smooth conduct of the examinations from tomorrow. However, withdrawal of Lal Chowk challo by separatists on the request All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) so that the sikh community could celebrate the birthday of Guru Nanak Ji, was a big relief for the administration who otherwise would have imposed curfew restrictions to prevent the march. Officials said that about 85 per cent students have collected their rolls number slips to appear in the examinations. The Board of School Examination (BOSE) have already announced that students appearing in the examinations this month will be given concession in the syllabus. However, this concession will not be available to students who have opted for March examinations. An official spokesman said today that a high level meeting held in Police Control Room (PCR) stressed the need for perfect coordination and synergy between the field officers of BOSE and department of Education, Magistracy and Police for the conduct of examination. Special Director General of Police (DGP) Coordination, Law & order, Dr S P Vaid, who chaired said that foolproof security and transport plans should be put in place and extra care needs to be taken for the examination centres categorized as sensitive and of far-flung areas . He said that the endeavour of the police is to ensure incident free conduct of examinations and for that there should be a meaningful briefing to the last men on the ground. He emphasized upon the officers that plans designed for these examinations should be implemented in true letter and spirit on the ground keeping in view of local situations. |
