PCC chief promotes groupism in Congress | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 13: Candle light marches across Jammu division for rejuvenating party on the name of One Rank One Position (OROP) have exposed groupism in State unit of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, more particularly in this region. And more ironic is the fact that not anyone else but PCC president G A Mir is himself encouraging this groupism in his party by explicitly encouraging some individuals and avoiding others thus sending wrong signals in the party at grass root level. This groupism was witnessed in the candle light rallies at different places, particularly at Samba, Bishnah, R S Pura, Udhampur etc, where senior party functionaries were either ignored or not even invited for the events. In Samba, the main function was organized by incumbent district president Parkash Sharma and attended by all. However, G A Mir, soon after reaching at the venue, was seen looking only for Vinod Mishra, an aspirant for the post of district president who had organized a parallel function. As the other senior Congressmen, present there, raised their objection over Mir's wish for taking all to Vinod Mishra's programme, the latter was invited there. The episode established Mir's clear preference for Vinod Mishra, a loyalist of Tara Chand, over other senior Congressmen, who could not hide their disappointment over the behavior of PCC chief. Similarly at Bishnah, the responsibility of taking out candle light march was assigned to Mohinder Bhardwaj while the block president Shashi Sharma, man of Sharma brothers (Madan Lal Sharma and Sham Lal Sharma), was not even invited for the event. A day after, PCC general secretary Namrta Sharma organized a separate march. In R S Pura, former minister R S Chib boycotted the march, which was organized by Prof Gharu Ram and others while in Udhampur, Brij Mohan Sharma was kept f away from the event, organized by incumbent district president Vinod Gupta. Even as factionalism was always there in Congress party but a PCC chief is supposed to keep the flock together. However, this was apparently for the first time that PCC chief himself was seen promoting factionalism and groupism in the party, opined a senior Congress leader. |
