Situation remains tense though guns are silent on LoC in Kashmir 11/24/2016 10:12:40 PM Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 24: Situation remained tense though guns are silent since last evening on the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir, where a couple was injured after Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and targeted forward positions and civilians areas yesterday. People are still in panic and some of them have taken shelter in safer places, including tunnel of Kishen Ganga Hydroelectric Power Project (KGHPP) , Gurez, a resident Mohammad Yousuf Khan told over phone. People were busy in their daily routine work when suddenly some shells fired by Pakistani troops from across the border landed in the civilians areas, particularly near the dam of KGHPP. He said people, including engineers and workers of power project, rushed inside the tunnel in panic. After India and Pakistan agreed for ceasefire in 2003 on LoC and International Border (IB), people were living a peaceful life without any fear to hit by shells. Even during 2014 elections, there was no shelling from Pakistan, he said. A number of other residents said that bunkers constructed before 2003 have been now damaged and even some people are using them as stores, keeping grass and other feed for the livestocks for winter when there is several feet of snowfall. Situation was also normal but tense in Keran sector, where a couple was injured when a shell fired by Pakistani troops yesterday exploded near their house, local resident said, adding that his son had lost one of his leg in a mine blast few years ago. It is the common people from both sides of the LoC who suffered the most due to ceasefire violations, the residents alleged. Guns are also silent in Machil sector, where three soldiers were killed in action on the LoC on November 22. Body of one of the soldier was also mutilated and Army has vowed heavy retribution for the cowardly act. However, no one was injured in the shelling yesterday. The border residents demanded their proper rehabilitation at a place away from the target of Pak shelling. Meanwhile, opposition National Conference (NC) MLC Qiesar Jamsheed Lone has demanded shifting of affected villagers to safer places besides six months free ration to them.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
