EDI monitoring committee fails to meet, new entrepreneurs left in lurch | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 24: The new ventures undertaken by the freshers who took seed money under the umbrella of Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (J&KEDI), are facing the heat of unrest and the callous attitude of the authorities who have turned blind eye towards their problems. According to the sources, the EDI which has been charged with the responsibility of bringing the budding entrepreneurs and provide them the complete support for establishment of their concerns, have totally failed to shape the fate of these entrepreneurs. Well placed sources told Early Times that the monitoring committee has also failed to see the successes and growth of the schemes made available to the new entrepreneurs by the government. "As per the constitution there is a monitoring committee, members of which are Joint Director Employment, Joint Director Industries and commerce, Regional Director Evaluation and statistics. Sources said that though the committee is duty bound to monitor such ventures at important stages to see the successes of these schemes, it has never bothered to check the fate of these entrepreneurs who are facing tough time and are not able to plough properly their business concerns. Sources said that the downfall of the schemes and the entrepreneurs is absolutely attributed to the unrest coupled with the callous attitude of the administration and Director EDI. It is reported that these entrepreneurs have not been able to pay even the bills pertaining to electricity and telephones, etc. One of the entrepreneurs who wished not to be named told Early Times that EDI constitution has found to be defective as there is no scheme to restructure these loans and seed money, where as the EDI should have kept a provision how to make a turn around. These entrepreneurs have appealed the government to look into the matter so that these failures are not faced again and the constitution of EDI is accordingly amended to facilitate restructuring schemes. It is surprising that after two militant attacks on EDI building, the office has been non functional. One of the sources stated, that director should have shifted to some other building in a camp shape to cater the problems of such entrepreneurs. However astonishingly according to sources, Director EDI has not focused on Srinagar office and has shifted to Jammu without making an alternate arrangement in Srinagar. "Some high level responsible officer should have been camped in a shift make arrangement in Srinagar to be responsive to these entrepreneurs's question," sources maintained. It is to mention here that the incumbent Director EDI has ironically over stayed at this place of posting and the government has turned a soft eye towards him. |
