Early Times Report
Baramulla, Nov 24: For defying strikes given by resistance groups, scores of passenger and private vehicles were damaged today by some unidentified masked youth, after which many passengers received minor injuries. The incidents created panic in Sopore town of Baramulla district. According to sources a group of unidentified masked youth appeared on Sopore-Kupwara road and stopped dozens of private and passenger vehicles which were plying on this route. "As usual vehicles of all types were plying on Sopore-Kupwara road, at Shangergund area of Sopore town these masked men started smashing window panes of every vehicle thus creating panic among the passengers", said sources. An eyewitness Bashir Ahmad Dar of Kupwara told early Times over the phone that, unruly group of some masked men stopped at least two dozen vehicles including buses, mini buses, cars and other vehicles on Kupwara-Sopore road and hurled stones on them for defying strike calls given by resistance groups, but some passengers made hue and cry due to which the masked youth disappeared after some people telephoned to the police about this incident and after ten minutes police reached the spot and restored traffic. Sources further said that, due to the double stand of these resistance groups, common people are suffering, adding that first there was a continuous strike for about four months and nothing was achieved and now when the relaxation was given, some miscreants are disrupting the peace in Kashmir valley. Due to stone pelting dozens of passengers received minor injuries in their head and eyes who were shifted to the nearby hospitals for treatment. Soon after this incident, news broke like a wildfire in every nook and corner of north Kashmir and the protesting youth disappeared swiftly after Police reached the spot, said eyewitness. However a senior police official said that, police have taken the matter seriously and they will investigate into it. "There are some miscreants and paid agents who are disrupting the peaceful atmosphere for their vested interests, but we will not allow them to do so", the official said. |
