No effort being made to repair temples in valley, 208 damaged in 2 decades | | | PS Bali Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 24: Despite the tall promises made by a 'nationalist' party to restore the lost glory of 'ruining' temples in Kashmir valley, not even a single temple has been touched for renovation in the past two years. Even guards have not been deployed in most of these temples for their security, according to official sources. "The condition of valley temples is deteriorating with the passage of every day but the government is not paying any heed to them," sources alleged. "More than 208 temples in Kashmir valley have been damaged in the past two decades, but not a single person has been arrested," said sources, adding that the nationalist party had promised to secure and restore the lost glory of these temples, but it had failed to fulfil its promise in this regard. The leaders of this nationalist party had even promised to get the encroached land of these temples released, but till date nothing had been done, sources alleged. "57 temples were damaged in Srinagar and 56 in Anantnag. The property of many temples also stands encroached by locals but the government is yet to take any legal action to this effect," sources alleged. Even in the old Srinagar city, some people were alleged to have encroached upon the land of a couple of temples. People had attached high expectations with the incumbent government to at least remove the alleged encroachers from there, sources said.
