Air traffic resumes from Srinagar airport after disruption | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 27: Air traffic was resumed today from Srinagar International Airport after disruption due to dense fog which had engulfed the town. Two flights landed here at the airport today, an official of the airport said. He said similarly two flights also left for New Delhi from the Airport as the visibility has improved. All the incoming and outgoing flights will operate as per schedule from the airport However, a Met department spokesman had said that visibility will improve today for a brief period before again going down. He said weather will remain unchanged during the next 48 hours in the valley, including Srinagar. Air traffic from the Srinagar airport remained disrupted due to poor visibility for the past ten days, badly affecting those who had planned their travel in advance to Jammu and other parts of the country. However, some people prefer to travel by road to Jammu instead of waiting to clear the sky. Met department spokesman said that visibility will improve once there is rain or snow which could remove the mist. Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan had convened a meeting to address issue of recurrent cancellation of flights at Srinagar International airport due to poor visibility. He directed the officials to take measures to minimise inconvenience to passengers and ensure continuity of flight operations during low visibility conditions during winters. He asked airline carriers to chalk out strategies to deal with flight delays and rescheduling. The air traffic at Srinagar airport has remained badly affected due to poor visibility for the past few days. Asking the airline carriers to desist from cancelling flights in advance, Div Com said it creates panic among the passengers. On the issue of installation of Runway Visual Range (RVR) devices at Srinagar Airport, he asked the concerned agencies to expedite the draft proposal so that it can be forwarded to Government of India. Khan directed civil aviation authorities to hold training session for staff to deal with foggy conditions. A group of three Rajya Sabha members from the Jammu and Kashmir had met Defence Minister and requested him to make some arrangements so that flights could also operate even when there is poor visibility. |
