Vehicles, vendors mock at protest calenders | | | Muhammad Mukaram Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov: 27: Hundreds of thousands of vehicles and the loud calls of vendors in the commercial hub Lal -Chowk in Srinagar, are the two major examples how people of Kashmir are now taking the protest-calendar's of separatists non-seriously. Every passing day, despite calls for protests by the separatists, people including shopkeepers, street vendors, rickshaw drivers, cart pullers, and last but not the least transporters, both public and private, ply normally on the roads. Experts say everything has a limit. "You can't keep people confined to strike calls all the time. There is something called livelihood. You can't render people without food. To live, you need to eat. Freedom movement apart, you can’t keep people hostage for long. there is a need for change in the strategy." Even though the separatists, for their satisfaction claims that people of the valley are obeying the protest calendar's given by them, but on the ground level situations seems something different as day by day there seems improvement in daily activities. "Despite the un-identified persons have torched several auto-rickshaws, I have to come out from the house to earn for my family. I know it is risk to ply auto in Srinagar, but what can I do, as I have no other choice left," said an auto driver. "The Innocent killings are directly proportional to spontaneous shut downs, hartals. when the killings stop people start resuming their daily activities," experts said. Recently, striking against the separatists handling of the current unrest in Kashmir, a top separatist leader and the former Hurriyat chairman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat has termed his colleagues in the Hurriyat as "blind riders on a lame horse". He said the separatist leaders had "jumped into the river without knowing how to swim". Which later has generated a debate about the separatist calendars with its uninterrupted shutdowns which has adversely affected economy and rendered thousands of people jobless. Some people have shown their anger against the separatist strategies on social networking sites like Facebook, tweeter, whatsapp, as on Wednesday the separatists have issued the new protest calendar which follows the same protest calendar of last week, several posts have been updated on social networking sites as, "Separatists have copied and pasted the new protest calendar for this week." |
