RAMBAN, Nov 27: House Assurance Committee's (HAC) two day tour of the district Ramban which concluded here today, proved to be a mere eye wash. The committee led by the chairman, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Banihal, Vikar Rasool Wani arrived in district Ramban yesterday afternoon with other committee members including legislators Javaid Hassan Beigh, Kamal Verma, Dina Nath Bhagat, Devinder Kumar Manyal, Deldan Namgail, but ironically, the team was reduced to half as all the other MLAs in the committee didn't accompany the team in the today visit as they had returned to their respective districts. The committee was to review on spot the assurances given by the state government on the concerns expressed in past by the MLAs and MLCs of this area in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Its main agenda was to review the ongoing widening four laning of the national highway between Jammu and Ramban and the progress of the Chenani-Nashri tunnel vis-a-vis the grievances among the locals around these projects and their ecological impact. MLA Ramban, Neelam Kumar Langeh was the special invitee besides the Chief Engineers of PWD (R&B), PHE, Irrigation and PDD in addition to the senior officers including DDC, ADC, SSP and other district officers of various concerning departments had discussed their agenda threadbare in a yesterday's meeting. The major issues which were discussed in the meeting were employment to the local youth, maintenance of the national highway, check on pollution caused due to the national projects, vanishing of the natural water sources, compensation of lands acquired for these projects, effects of polluted streams on trout fish farming, Company's Social Responsibility (CSR) and NOC's by the Forest department for these projects. Pertinently, during the second day of the visit, the committee led by Rasool interacted with the locals at Magerkot and Hingni Ramsu and held a public meeting at Khari, the other members including the MLAs were conspicuously absent. |
