Srinagar, Nov 27: Traffic on the highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, were resumed today after remaining suspended due to slippery road following snowfall at several places. Traffic restrictions during the night continued on the historic Mughal road and Bandipora to border town of Gurez. A traffic police official said, that due to slippery road conditions when there was snowfall at several places between Sonamarg-Zojila-Meenmarg, traffic on Srinagar-Leh national highway was suspended as a precautionary measure yesterday. However, as the weather improved late in the afternoon vehicles, carrying passengers and empty trucks, were allowed from Kargil to Kashmir till late in the evening. He said traffic was also allowed from Ladakh to Srinagar this morning. Vehicles, including those carrying essentials to different parts of the Ladakh region would be allowed in the afternoon. However, no vehicle from any side will be allowed during the night on the highway, he said. Traffic was plying smoothly on Srinagar-Jammu national highway from both sides. Official said traffic on Mughal road from Shopian in south Kashmir to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region will continue to ply during the day time only. To avoid any accident due to slippery road conditions during the night following below freezing temperature, restrictions on night traffic will continue till further orders. Traffic on Bandipora to border town of Gurez road will also continue during the day only. As the road becomes slippery during the night due to below freezing temperature, no vehicular movement will be allowed from evening till morning as a precautionary measure. |
