Jammu, Dec 1: City judge, Jammu, M S Manhas has ordered police to hold a probe into the Narwal fire, that had Saturday last led to the death of four persons, all refugees of Myanmar. After going through the complaint filed by the victims, the judge directed Bagh-e-Bahu police station SHO to investigate the matter in terms of section 156 (3) of CrPC. The applicant, along with other 80 families of Myanmar, has been living at Narwal Bala for the past several years in jhugies which they have raised on a private land against rent to the landlord who has given copies of their identity cards and proper information to the police station. He alleged that Liaqat Ali and Mohammad Sadiq, sons of Firoz Din, Sajjad Ahmed alias Sonu, son of Mohammad Sadiq, Shaqil Ahmed alias Monu, son of Mohammad Sadiq, Abdul Rashid, son of Firoz Din and Faryad Khan, son of Mohammad Sain, all residents of Narwal Bala, had a land dispute with their landlord and had been threatening them to burn their jhugies to vacate the land. He alleged that they also used to beat them. Cases in this regard already stand registered with the police station. On Saturday night, around 60 jhugies of 80 families were burnt to ashes and four persons were charred to death. The complainant alleged that after they approached police to register an FIR against the accused, the latter took no action against them. --(JNF) |
