Govt Hospitals procure drugs without obtaining Analytical Reports | Negligence raises risk of spurious drugs | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 1: Despite the laid norms that on every purchase of drugs, the concerned department has to obtain Analytical Reports of the drugs before giving them to patients, the primer Hospitals of the state are making local purchases without obtaining any such reports. Sources told Early Times that the department is required to ensure that Analytical Reports of drugs/ disposables are received with each lot /batch of drugs/ medicines at the time of receipt of supplies so that medicines/ drug of standard quality are procured. "Astonishingly, the department received Analytical Reports on the medicines/ disposables procured against rate contracts but no such reports was insisted upon in the case of local purchases for the past many years hinting at the shady deals of pharma companies with officials," they alleged. They further said that although the hospital authorities have been directed to avoid local purchases but such purchases continued without seeking analytical reports posing risk to the lives of the patients. The extent of irregularities made by the hospital authorities can be well understood from the fact that no analytical reports was obtained in respect of 160 orders valuing over one crore out of 426 sampled supply orders, they alleged further adding that the non-receipt of Analytical Reports is fraught with the risk of providing sub-standard spurious drugs medicines to the patients. "If analytical reports were received on the drugs procured through Rates Contracts then why same could not be received on the local purchases," they alleged. Moreover, despite their failure to obtain analytical reports on any local purchase from the suppliers even the laboratory kits were also not obtained. |
