CJI TS Thakur breaks down while talking about J&K students' struggle | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 3: The plight of school students in Kashmir pained Chief Justice TS Thakur so much that he broke down while talking to them during an event at Centre Basic School in Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday. His voice choked while addressing the students as he talked about their struggle in the valley. "In last 50 years, we've even gone to Mangalyaan, but there has been no change in infrastructure of this school, same old broken chairs. I know situation is bad in region since last 25-30 yrs because of extremism. Government is facing lot of challenges but education is one thing which can't be compromised as it is only way to progress," said Thakur. Thakur said that there are forces that do not want the children in Kashmir to get educated. "Isliye woh taqatein jo chahti hain ki taalim na ho, jihadiyat ke taraf logon ko dhakela jaye woh ab school ko bhi jala rahein hain (there are forces that don't want education for children and that is why they are pushing the children towards jihad)", said Thakur. However, the chief justice expressed hope for a better future for the students. "You must have seen how schools are being burned in Kashmir, schools are being neglected in Jammu, but I still feel there is hope." This was not the first time when Thakur got emotional during a public function. In April earlier this year, at a joint conference of chief ministers and chief justices of high courts, Thakur broke down in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while talking about India's overworked judiciary. |
