'Omar led Govt was incompetent' | NC's claim to project itself as only viable option punctured | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 3: The former Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram calling Omar Abdullah led government in Jammu and Kashmir "incompetent" has stirred the hornet's nest. While replying to a question posed by India Today's Karan Thapar during the launch of former Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon's book, Chidambaram said, "We had a young man (Omar Abdullah) with good intention but his was not a competent government. Competence of the government was not good." "Chidambaram's remarks have put the credibility of Omar Abdullah at stake. Omar always used to pose that he is close to the former Union Home Minister and had even created a notion that Chidambaram had agreed in principle to lift the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from a few areas of Jammu and Kashmir," said an analyst. He said, "One of the key persons of the former Congress led UPA-regime calling Omar's regime incompetent has left the former Chief Minister and his party red faced. National Conference these days is leaving no stone unturned to prove that PDP led BJP government is a complete failure and NC is the only viable option which can rule JK." A Kashmir watcher said, "These days Omar is daring the PDP led government to hold by-polls in Anantnag assembly constituency and Srinagar Parliamentary segment. It seems he has forgotten how his party tasted defeat in 2014 and how NC was outrightly rejected by the people. Chidambaram has opened his mouth after a long time but the fact of the matter is that people by rejecting NC in 2014 had made it clear that it's incompetent and they are not fit to rule the state." A politician while talking to Early Times said, "Omar led regime lacked the will and courage to take bold decisions. NC's coalition partner Congress also paid a heavy price for Omar turning out to be a weak chief minister. Congress stalwarts like veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had to taste the defeat in Parliamentary polls. Congress got wiped out from the Jammu region due to it allying with NC." He said, "Omar as Chief Minister remained busy with twitter and kept on raking one controversy after another. His government failed to even implement the centrally sponsored schemes and slept over the developmental works. Omar led government made a mockery of job policy and left the youth in lurch. After six years the progress report of the erstwhile NC-Congress regime was nothing more than a big zero. And Chidambaram has endorsed it." |
