Banihal, Dec 03: Forest fires continue to rage in at least four compartments here since last evening, with the officials making all out efforts to control them. Fire tenders too have been pressed into service to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading further.
Fire broke out in compartment No 42 at Krawa last evening. Official sources said after the teams of forest department controlled the flames, these re-erupted after some time. In Khari area too, a forest compartment was under fire. Sources said the officials concerned were beating the flames to stop them from spreading further. In Livra and Mamma forests of Chamalvas, fire was stated to have engulfed compartment No 53 and 54. Two fire tenders had been pressed into service to extinguish the flames, sources informed. Sources said several green trees had been burnt in these fires. Officials, however, contradicted these reports, claiming it was only the ground fire. Forest department has also called upon locals to help its officials in extinguishing the fire. |
