JKHWA stage protest, submits memorandum to CM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 3: In connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a large number of physically challenged persons under the banner of J&K Handicapped Welfare Association (J&KHWA) held protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today. Holding banners and placards depicting their demands, the protesting people held their protest against the State Government for their alleged neglect and non provision of the job quota guarantee to them by the Union Parliament and the State Legislature as well. Speakers said today when whole world is commemorating the World Disability Day, the physically challenged persons in this part of the country are struggling for the justice. Highlighting their demands the speakers urged the Chief Minister to intervene and concede to their long pending demands to give justice to the disable persons. Later a delegation of protestors submitted a memorandum of demands through proper channel to Chief Minister (CM) Mehbooba Mufti for early redressal of long pending demands of the handicapped persons. The demands taken up in the memorandum include clearing all the pending cases of pension of disabled persons, enhancement of monthly pension from present Rs.1000/- (as per Govt. Order No.167-SW of 2016 dated 30-00-2016) to a minimum of Rs 8000/-pm per month, Office accommodation in each district HQs with Central Offices at Jammu/Srinagar, Persons with disability be also included as far as possible for providing works under MGNERGA Scheme in Rural as well as urban areas, persons with disability be also included like BPL categories etc, reservation in employment to vertically handicapped persons be also implemented, Health cover with special package. Free medical aid/treatment in all Government Hospitals and approved Nursing Homes, Reservation in Professional Colleges besides reservation be given to the children of handicapped persons for one generation as in the case of SCs/STs, Advisory Board for economic and social development of Physically challenged persons on the pattern of SC/ST/Pahari Boards etc, loans at low rate of interest and 50% subsidy to handicapped persons, Separate counters be opened/preferential treatment be given to persons with disability in every Govt./Semi-Govt. offices in the State of J&K, 50% concession in electric/water charges be provided to the disabled persons and Constitution of State/Division/District Coordination Committee for redressal of the problem of disabled and disabled day be declared a holiday for all disabled persons in J&K State.The association also demanded that the world disabled day be declared as holiday for all disabled persons who are in Government services. |
