Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 22: Reacting to the recent amendments in Panchyat Raj Act, the former minister and PCC General Secretary Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today termed it as the most unfortunate step which will prove fatal for strengthening grass root democratic institution.
Dr Sharma said that this step will give boost to horse trading in elections of sarpanches who was previously got elected by the general public instead of Panches.
"I unable to understand the reason behind such amendment and what the government want to achieve by this except encouraging corruption by horse trading, Congress leader said, adding, "the main objective of establishment of panchayat raj institution in the country is to involve the general public in developmental process of the country but with new amendments the political ideology of Bhartiya Janata Party has been shown how fairer are they towards the participation of general public in decision making Bodies.
"This new amendment indicates that the BJP is believing in limitation of power to the some people only and the general public kept at large in decision making for the development of rural areas, Dr Sharma regretted. Dr Sharma demanded immediate withdrawal of amendment in the larger interest of panchayati Raj institution. Dr Sharma said this while speaking to deputations led by sarpances namely Surinder Singh, Romesh Kumar Sharma, Kamal Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Sham Sapolia, Romesh Sapolia, Budhi singh, Ajeet singh and Puran chand and others
