Azad leaves Congress dissidents in lurch | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 22: Exasperated over their non-inclusion as office bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and them being ignored by their Godfather Ghulam Nabi Azad, some members of the dissident faction in State Congress are mulling to quit the party. Sources in Congress circles said the dissident group members are feeling dejected over Ghulam Nabi Azad, changing their behavior towards them and ignoring them. Already puzzled over unprecedented delay in their adjustment, the dissident camp is learnt to be particularly upset over Azad giving preference to their bête- noire JKPCC vice-president Sham Lal Sharma. This was evident again during the latest visit of Azad to Jammu when Sham Lal Sharma along with Raman Bhalla and Ravinder Sharma were among the first to receive him at the Airport. Though MLC Jugal Kishore, Arun Sharma and Mohinder Bhardwaj too received Azad at the Airport, the other Congress leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and others, did not turn up there despite prior information of the arrival. According to the sources, the dissident camp after the return of Azad to Delhi, sought to contact him over the development but there was no response. In the wake of these developments, sources said the dissident faction is disappointed and there are reports that some members of the camp have conveyed the high command that they would quit Congress if later continues to ignore them. Further, sources said that these dissident leaders have also decided not to attend the scheduled meeting by JKPCC president at his residence. The meeting is scheduled to discuss the Congress strategy in forthcoming days and plan series of programmes in connection with 100th birth anniversary celebrations of late Indira Gandhi. |
