JK proposes Rs 800 cr for roads, gets Rs 80 cr | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 22: The government of India has released just Rs 80 crore against the proposal of Rs 800 crore by the J&K government under Central Road Funds. Sources told Early Times the state government had sent a proposal of Rs 800 crore for 25 CRF projects last year. The proposal, which remained stuck due to objections raised by the Centre, was later sent back to the state for revision. "Most of the projects in the proposal were objected to by the Centre and were returned to the state with the direction that the cost should be minimised as much as possible. This exercise took sufficient time which delayed the process for their approval and hence work could not be started," said sources. They said now the government of India has released only Rs 80 crore out of the proposed Rs 800 crore. Sources said after the fresh proposal was approved by the Centre, the state government had expected at least Rs 200 crore in its first instalment. "The sanctioned amount of Rs 80 crore has come as a shock to the state government," said sources. "The liabilities of already executed works and the undergoing works have gone so high that the released amount of Rs 80 crore will not serve the purpose," said sources. "Sectioning of roads projects is not enough; releasing sufficient funds can only serve the purpose," they added. |
