Forest officer punished for waging war against politician-timber Mafia nexus | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Dec 22: For waging a war against timber smuggling, Forest department on Thursday removed Whistleblower Forest officer from Kuthar Range of Forest Division Anantnag apparently to appease Timber Mafia and their political masters. Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Range Officer Kuthar was removed after a group of timber smugglers approached their political masters and complained that the officer has made it difficult for them to carry on the illegal timber smuggling, highly placed sources told Early Times. The Chief Conservator of Forests Central, S F A Gilani although hadn't mentioned any reason for his transfer but has just included his name in the list of four Forest officers who were transferred on Wednesday. Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, a gold medalist was posted in Kuthar Range just 45 days ago and during his stay in the range, Officer has recommended and prepared PSA dossier against two infamous and habitual timber smugglers. Official records reveal that the Whistleblower Forest officer had seized 200 cfts of timber, registered 8 cases against timber smugglers, and seized four horses in last 45 days at Kuthar Range. The officer had also started night patrolling to bring down the timber smuggling besides taking keen interest in nursery works. At Anantnag Forest Division, Officials were shocked to receive the transfer order of Mir, who according to them is honest and dedicated Forest Official. "People involved in Timber Smuggling enjoy such a political patronage that on fine morning you receive a transfer order of an honest sub-ordinate who had waged a war against the timber smugglers and did such an excellent work in just 45days," an official posted in Anantnag forest division said while expressing displeasure. He said that the transfer of the forest officer was a major setback for the employees and officials of the department who are taking stand against the illegal timber smuggling. Chief Conservator of Forest South Kashmir, Irfan Rasool and Divisional Forest Officer Anantnag Hamiyoo Qabir refused to comment. Mustaq Ahmad Mir on being contacted termed his transfer order 'politically motivated'. "I was posted in Demarcation Division Srinagar where I demarcated forest boundary of 243 kms and renovated 800 demarcation pillars which irritated political people and mafia and within short span of time I was transferred to Verinag," Mir claimed. He said that he was allowed to work in Verinag Range just for 28 days and was again transferred to Khuhmama Range were I retrieved 100 kanals of encroached forest land in two compartments (12 and 13) "After ten months, I was transferred to Ningli Range from Khuhmama Range. Just after ten days I was again transferred to Kuthar Range and now after 45 days I am again transferred," Mir added. He alleged that this is being done by the politicians on behest of timber mafia who want to destroy our environs. "Is this interest of administration," he questioned and threatened to approach court in case his transfer case isn't revoked. "I am liable to any action if I have done anything wrong but treating me as a football is unacceptable to me," he added. Chief Conservator of Forests Central, S F A Gilani wasn't available for a comment. |
