GGM Science College organises workshop on Disaster Management Preparedness

Jammu, Mar 17: A two days workshop on "Disaster Management Preparedness" was organized at GGM Science College in collaboration with Divisional Disaster Management authority Jammu.
In this workshop over 90 faculty members of different Colleges of Jammu Division participated. On the first day the workshop started with the lecture of Prof. SK Pandita, Director Disaster Management Centre, University of Jammu.
He explained the various aspects of disaster management and its mitigation. A very interesting lecture on role Psycho-social care in disaster management was delivered by Bilquees Dal and A well constructed lecture on the first aid in event of the disaster was delivered by Dr. Ran Bushan consultant in anesthesia in J&K Health department.
On the second day, interesting lecture by Aaliya Fazal on safety in Educational institute viz a viz disaster and its management was held.
The team of SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu led by Inspector Vishal Dubey gave a live demonstration cum lecture on first aid and fire fighting.
A display of different fire fighting equipments was also made in the premises of college for the participants and students.
A mock drill of high rise building rescue operation was also conducted superbly by the team of SDRF which was highly appreciated by the participants and the students.
The pogramme ended with a valedictory function in which Prof. Z.A Chatt, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department J&K Govt., was Chief Guest and Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal, was guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest elaborated the importance of this workshop in light of the location and high vulnerability of the state of J&K due to its presence in high risk seismic zone and the catastrophe caused by the manmade disasters like the 2014 floods of Kashmir.
