Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 24: Expressing displeasure over government order under which powers of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) will be given to Sub District Magistrate (SDM), the people of Nowshera continued their protests on 37th consecutive day on Saturday.
The police resorted to lathicharge on the peaceful protestors, which left nearly 18 people injured including two media persons who were covering the protest.
The recent order of government evoked resentment among the people and they are holding protests. On Saturday, hundreds of people took out protest march to SDM office. The protestors said giving power of ADC to SDM is not acceptable and they want separate and full-fledged ADC for the Sub Division.
Heavy security was deployed at SDM office to stop the protestors from entering the office premises. The cops stopped the protestors, asking them not to enter the office. But the protestors argued that they want to submit a memorandum to the SDM. In the lathicharge by police, around 18 persons were injured. Police also used teargas shell to disperse the protestors.
Angered over the brute use of the police on the peaceful protest march, the people of Nowshera said they have resolved that their protests will remain continue until their demand was not met.
They said that already a youth leader, who was slapped by the SDPO Nowshera, had attempted a suicide and his condition is said to be serious.
Amid resentment of the people, the Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary said that government has agreed to the demands of the people of ADCs, but if they have some kind of disagreement against this order, they should talk to the administration and their issues can be resolved in peaceful manner.
He said that damaging public property will not solve the purpose and such act will not be tolerated and will be dealt with heavy hand. The DC asserted that FIR will be lodged against such people.
