Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 24: A minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government has been allegedly misusing the wealth of departments falling under his jurisdiction to expand his family business.
Sources informed Early Times that the minister from Jammu region has been constructing an educational intitution in district Kathua. "Earlier the minister had pressurized a construction company by denying them permission for a prestigious road construction project. The construction company had finally agreed to the demands of the minister in question and had extended free help in the form of men and machinery for construction work", sources said, adding that now the minister needed some other material required in the construction work.
The minister is heading various departments, and one of the departments has been generating huge revenue by sale of a product. "The minister also needs that same product in the construction work of the building. So he had reportedly pressurized the department officials to send the required product to the construction site", sources said.
They said that in the last few months, more than three truckloads of this product have been transported from one depot of the department directly to the construction site of the under construction building.
"The minister had reportedly threatened the officials with dire consequences if they raised voice against such mal-practice", sources said, adding that whenever there was demand of the product at the construction site, the workers of the minister called on the officials at the depot, who in turn send the required product to the minister's construction site.
"To hide this scandal, the officials have been manipulating all the records and are not showing the actual details of the product extracted from various areas of the state and the material available in the depots of the department", sources said.
They said that in the last few months, large amount of material to the tune of several lakhs of rupees has been illegally transported to the construction site and more would be transported in the coming days.
Though BJP is aware of the nefarious practices of this minister, due to reasons best known to them they have kept mum over the issue.
