Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 24: Apart from the Kashmir issue and the Indus Water Treaty India and Pakistan are engaged in blaming each other for harassment of its diplomats and their family members.When Pakistan High Commissioner Suhail Mahmood,was summoned by Islamabad to discuss the level of harassment of diplomats and their family members it had become important news signaling that only Pakistani diplomats and their family members face harassment in India.
But the truth is against Islamabad on the plea that India has issued its eleventh note verbale to Pakistan, detailing the harassment and ill-treatment of its diplomats in that country, and their families, signalling a further deterioration of ties between the two countries. India and Pakistan .have in recent days accused each other of ill-treating diplomats and their families.The note said that an Indian diplomat was harassed even on March 16, the day Indian high commissioner Ajay Bisaria met Pakistan foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua to raise the issue.
The note added that there has also been no let-up in phone calls with 'objectionable messages' that Indian officials are receiving, two officials familiar with the developments said here.
According to the note, the , Indian government websites are blocked in Pakistan, deterring the functioning of its diplomatic mission, including the issuing of visas.This has forced the mission to use proxy servers, the note added. The diplomatic communication pointed out that: on March 16, a counsellor was followed by one vehicle with two people inside in "an intimidating manner";
And when Pakistan High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood, was summoned by Islamabad it made one believe that India is responsible for harassing Pakistani diplomats and their family members.And to convince the world that Pakistani diplomats and their family members faced harassment in India the Pakistan High Commissioner,on return to New Delhi, has said he had discussed the issue of alleged harassment of diplomats with his government, which wants to sort out it "as soon as possible".
Mahmood, who came back to India the other day, after he was called back for consultations amid raging row between India and Pakistan over harassment of diplomats, said such issues affected the relations between the two countries.
"I discussed this issue (alleged harassment of Pakistani diplomats in India) with our government. We want to sort out this issue as soon as possible because it affects the relations between the countries," the Pakistani envoy said
Mahmood was called back to Islamabad for consultations after alleged incidents of harassment of its diplomatic staff in New Delhi, with Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Faisal claiming that the Indian government had failed to take notice of the increasing incidents of intimidation of Pakistani diplomats, their families and staff by its intelligence agencies.
India and Pakistan have accused each other of harassing diplomats in Islamabad and New Delhi, respectively The two sides have been fighting a major battle on its borders with Pakistani troops engaged in daily violation of ceasefire agreement and the row over alleged harassment of diplomats and their family members has added new dimensions to the animosity between the two sides.
It is strange that Islamabad wants to sort out the issue as early as possible but is not prepared to resolve the Kashmir issue or that of the Indus Water Treaty issue.Islamabad is not interested in settling the Siachen and the Sir Creek problems because it is engaged in exporting terror to Jammu and Kashmir while India is busy in exporting water to Pakistan,within the ambit of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960.
For violating the spirit of the Treaty Pakistan has accused of building two major power projects on three rivers which are covered under the Treaty.But it is India that has honoured the Treaty when Pakistan has been busy in exporting terror and by sponsoring insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
