Holy town of Katra caught in mess of buses
New bus stand remains vacant

Early Times Report
Katra, Jun 7: Holy town of Katra has been caught in the mess created by unchecked and uncontrolled traffic of passenger buses causing grave inconvenience to pilgrims, locals and business owners of the town.
To streamline the system, a new bus stand near Asia Chowk garden point came up to cater to the rush of the vehicles, but it generally remains vacant due to nonchalance of the traffic police and other agencies.
However before the new Bus Stand could come up , some influential persons who had their business interests in old bus stand had approached the court and got a stay against the functioning of the new bus stand; But later on, though the stay got vacated, still no buses are routed to the new bus Stand which is adding to the agony of the pilgrims.
One can see rush of the buses and private vehicles lined up at Asia Chowk , Railway Road and Ban Ganga road thus putting up a messy jam in the area and restricting the pedestrian movement of the pilgrims towards the holy cave.
Though all this is happening under the very nose of the Tehsil administration of Katra , the District Commissioner Reasi too seems to be nonchalant in passing any strict order to the regulating agencies for streamlining movement of the buses towards new bus stand .
"The traffic police Katra are neck deep in corruption and equally in connivance with the businessmen of the area who deliberately park the buses at various points in the holy town so that shopkeepers could make maximum out of the pilgrims," said a local of Katra Town.
He said that not only the traffic police, but the higher authorities in different administrative wings in Katra are keeping eyes wide shut.
Though Shrine Board is extending all possible help to make Katra all problems free zone, but different administrative hick ups, most of which are deliberate to help different mafia operating in the town, are taking its toll on pilgrims.
