Political workers enjoy meals, citizens pay bill! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 7: A taxpayer is asking a question to the J&K government: why should his hard earned money be spent over the lavish parties thrown away by political groups to appease their workers? Notably, around 1500 people were invited to the iftaar party hosted by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the lush and posh lawns of the SKICC. Among the invitees, a large chunk comprised of the political workers of a particular group. As per the estimates, out of the 1500 invitees, 1100 were the zone presidents, block presidents, halqa presidents, and mohalla presidents of a particular party. In the serene environment of SKICC with the cool breeze of the Dal Lake beating the June heat, countless dishes were served to these political workers. However, what is hurting the common man of the state is the fact that the expenditure of such a huge party shall be borne out of his pocket. He pays the tax and wants the government to provide him the basic facilities like good roads, water, electricity, health services and quality education. Ironically, as all such facilities remain missing in the state, and one wonders why the government is hell-bent to drain out the pocket of a common man who works from dawn to dusk. "If the expenditure would have been borne out of the pocket of a political party, no one would have objected. But why the government exchequer has to pay the price for it? It is nothing but sheer injustice with the thousands of families of the state who even today crave for basic amenities," writes a netizen on his social media account. As per the official sources, the entire expenditure shall be borne out of the state exchequer for all the lavish parties being thrown by the government. The total estimate is going to be in lakhs if not in crores. One wonders why the government isn't spending the same money on the devolvement of schools which are in the dilapidated conditions across the state. As per the government's own records, more than 80 percent of schools are without electricity and 75 percent of schools with no computer facility available in Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, according to the survey conducted by the state dispensation two years ago, there were as many as 62 villages in Jammu region that are as on date un-electrified. According to government sources, the number of hamlets in the countryside of Jammu could be more with no electricity facilities. The most vital power reform schemes are in limbo and haven't seen day's light till date. "This is the reason why a citizen pays the tax to the government. Every taxpayer wants good governance and would never allow the government to spend his hard earned money in a ruthless way. The state dispensation has to become accountable to a common man of the state," wrote another netizen. |
