Early Times Report
Kishtwar, June 26: In a major setback to peace initiatives in Jammu province, a father of five children has joined militancy in Kishtwar district.
As per details gathered by Early Times, Kishtwar police this week declared the 34-year-old Talib Gujjar, son of late Noor Mohammad, of Rashgwari, Padyarana in Nagsini tehsil of Kishtwar as a militant after he remained absconding for last two years.
Talib had disappeared mysteriously in July 2016 prompting his family to lodge a missing report with Kishtwar police on 21-3-2017. Finally, the police declared Talib an active militant with Hizbul Mujahideen on 20-6-2018.
Police sources told Early Times that after proper verification and accounts of various witnesses, it was found that Talib had joined the Hizb and was seen roaming with weapons in upper reaches of Marwah and Dachhan areas of Kishtwar along with few other militants active in the area.
The sources said that his family members also approached senior police officers and sought their help to motivate him to shun militancy and return to mainstream.
After declaring Talib an active militant, the security agencies have raised an alarm as more youths are missing from various areas of Kishtwar. It's believed that at least two other youths have also joined militancy in the district which was the only district in Jammu province where Hizb outfit still exists.
The sources said that agencies are looking for the 'OGW' network in the district and are searching the persons who are motivating and luring the youths towards militancy, the practice commonly seen in Kashmir valley.
The sources said that in recent past security forces have launched several search operations after receiving inputs about the movement of suspected militants in different areas of the district. However nothing was found by the security forces.
SP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary could not be reach for his comment.
It is pertinent to mention that recently 32-year-old Qamru Din alias Hamza Hizbi, a resident of Assam joined militancy in Kishtwar and it is believed that he had motivated some youths of the district to join the militancy before he was exposed following which HM released his picture carrying AK 47 assault rifle. The matter is being investigated by the NIA since Qamru Din had spent at least four years in the US and two years in Bangladesh before joining militancy.
