Early Times Report Jammu, June 26: Even as the rape cases are piling up in different district courts of J&K, the successive state governments have miserably failed to set up Fast Track Courts (FTCs) despite Apex Court's clear directions in this regard. The non-constitution of FTCs is denying speedy justice to several rape victims, which is totally in contrast to well known legal maxim "Justice delayed is justice denied". Whenever the polls are around, every political party make huge promises of constituting the FTCs to ensure timely justice for the rape victims, however, as soon as they assume power the assurancesp fade away in thin air. Sanjay Kumar, a central government employee, rebuked the apathetic mind-set of the successive state governments for not showing the willpower to form FTCs which could eventually help in swift disposal of all the pending rape cases at various courts of J&K. Mohit Sharma, an advocate, said that the formation of FTCs is need of the hour as it will drastically reduce the pendency of rape cases in courts and will also prove to be an effective tool in tackling the heinous crime like rape against women as early disposal of such cases and the punishment awarded to the culprits will create a sense of fear among the persons having corrupt mentality. Ashok Kumar, principal of a private school, strongly favoured to set up FTCs for rape victims. He said such cases are piling up in different courts of the state due to which their early disposal is nowhere in the sight. This pendency adds on to the agony of rape victims. He lamented that successive state governments showed no concern to deliver early justice to the rape victims. |
