India-Pakistan exchange barbs at the UN Assembly | | | Once again India and Pakistan exchanged barbs at the UN General Assembly. And it has become part of Pakistan's plan to rake up the Kashmir issuer and the alleged human rights violations in Kashmir on the floor of the UN General Assembly. It has invariably seen Pakistan has to rake up the Kashmir issue and alleged ethnic cleansing of people in the valley. Why did not Pakistan raise the issue of ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits on the floor of the UN General Assembly? It could not rake up the cleansing of Pandits from the valley because Pakistan has been trying to sponsor insurgency in Kashmir and the terrorists who were pushed into Kashmir were responsible for ethnic cleansing that took place in 1990. And since then these Pandits have been leading a life of poverty, penury and facing several hardships in areas outside the valley. And that is why India .has told Pakistan that no amount of "empty rhetoric" by it will change the reality that Jammu and Kashmir is an "inalienable" part of India. India's counter offensive was launched after Islamabad's envoy to the UN made a reference to the Indian state at a UN General Assembly debate. Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi's reference came during her remarks the other day in the General Assembly debate on 'The Responsibility to Protect and the Prevention of Genocide, War Crimes, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity'. Lodhi said people in Kashmir are among victims of "egregious crimes" such as killings and mass blinding. In fact she seems to be off the mark in berating India for carrying out human fights violations. India exercised the Right of Reply, strongly rejecting Pakistan's reference to Kashmir in the 193-member UN body. "While we are having this serious debate for the first time in a decade on an issue that is of importance to all of us, we have witnessed that one delegation has, yet again, misused this platform to make an unwarranted reference to the situation in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir," First Secretary in India's Permanent Mission to the UN Sandeep Kumar Bayyapu said in India's Right of Reply. Bayyapu said such cynical attempts by Pakistan to raise the Kashmir issue in the UN had failed in the past and did not find any resonance in the UN body. "I would like to place on record and reiterate that the state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and hence the breast beating by Pakistan cannot result in Kashmir's incorporation with Pakistan. In fact Pakistan has been seen in the forefront of those nations that support terror and the same was being exported to Jammu and Kashmir with the hope of delinking Kashmir from the Indian soil. Hence Pakistan's gameplan should be understood by the UN and the US. Had not Pakistan been providing material, moral and diplomatic support to militants, operating in Jammu and Kashmir, the valley would have by now tasted peace. And for the information of the UN officials Pakistani troops have brought about 200 militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, on the launch pads across the LoC and on the IB and these militants are to be pushed into the India state for escalating the level of violence. Is it genuine on the part of Pakistan? Certainly not if the UN reprimands Islamabad. |
